Color

Color that's easy to live with

Leila's rules of thumb, from painting rooms for people who plan to stay in them.

  • Three overlapping paint chips in teal, grey and cream on a pale surface

    Lighter walls, more daylight

A light, warm wall bounces more of the window around the room.

  • Fabric and paint samples in pale blue, black and tan laid on marble

    Clear edges

A trim or door color that differs from the wall helps the eye find openings and corners.

  • A hand holding a fan of pale paint chips

    Less glare

Matte or soft finishes on big walls, and a harder one only where hands touch.

At the wall

Leila brings swatches to the wall.

Colors look different in your light. She tapes samples up, and you look at them in the morning and in the evening before you choose.

  • Colors named so you can find them again

  • Sample cards left with you for a week

  • Send a photo or a paint chip first, if you like

About color

Do you help with colors?

Yes. Leila brings swatches to the wall and looks at them in your light, morning and evening. Send a photo or a paint chip if you'd like to start before she comes.

Which paint do you use, and who buys it?

We buy premium paint. You can ask which one, and for the data sheet, before the day starts. Matte for bedrooms, a washable finish for kitchens and halls, a harder one for trim.

Not sure of a color? Start with a swatch.

We'll bring a few, and you don't have to choose on the day.
